How is Child – Pugh Score Determined?
Child – Pugh Score is usually determined by considering five clinical measures associated to liver diseases. The five clinical measures includes total bilirubin, serum albumin, prothrombin time (INR) (blood clotting time), Ascites and Hepatic encephalopathy. Each measure is scored between 1-3 and 3 indicates the most severe derangement.
What does the Child – Pugh Score Indicates?
The interpretation of the Child – Pugh Score can be done in following way-
- Class A – If the score is between 5-6 then it indicates least severe liver diseases and the survival rate is 95%.
- Class B - If the score is between 7-9 points then it can be categorised as moderately severe disease and survival rate will be 75%.
- Class C – If the score is between 10-15 points then it depicts most severe liver disease and survival rate will be 50%.
