What is Gartner’s Cysts?- Causes, Symptoms, Tips and Treatment

Common signs and symptoms that are seen in Gartner’s cyst are
- Mass or lump-like structure can be seen on either one or both sides of the opening of the vagina which is mostly painless.
- The uncomfortable feeling while sitting and walking
- Difficulty in inserting tampon
- Bladder dysfunction
If the fluid gets infected then you might notice some symptoms like
- High fever with chills.
- Drainage of fluid from the cyst.
- Dyspareunia which means painful sensation while performing sexual intercourse.
- Complication:- If not treated properly it might lead to the formation of abscess along with bleeding. If the infection enters the body through blood then it can lead to life-threatening situation causing septicemia.
WHAT IS THE CAUSES FOR GARTNER’S CYST?
The main reason for the cyst is not known. There are some of the reasons that can lead to cyst formation are some injury caused to the vaginal wall during the birth of a child or during sexual intercourse. Other reasons can be a proliferation of cells present in the duct leading to a benign growth of the gland and other complications. Some of the common reasons can be that it is a congenital cyst meaning abnormality present during development.

- Physical examination after the permission of the patient and carefully examine the vagina to look for abnormal growth.
- Medical history of the patient to about any STD.
- Examination of the pelvic area

- Use lukewarm water to wash the area
- Undergarments should be washed every third day.

- Do not scratch the vaginal area with nails as it may cause infection.
