The disease shows a tendency toward ossification of ligaments. DISH most commonly affect the neck, low back, heels, hips and other areas. This disease is uncommon before age 40 years.

What are the Causes of Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis ?

DISH exact cause is not known. This disease comes under metabolic condition. The disease is more common in men than women and elderly people. It is uncommon before 40 years of age.

  • X-ray: This test produce images of bones. It provides overall assessment of the vertebral column. X-rays are used to detect spinal dislocation, scoliosis, kyphosis, local or overall spine balance.
  • MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging scan produces detailed images of organs and structures in body.
  • CT scan: Computed tomography scan shows detailed images of bones, fat, muscles and organs.

3. Hakam Churna

This churna contains herb like chandershoor, kalonji, methi and ajwain.

  • Ajwain: This herb expels acidity and relieves stomach ache. It pacifies vata dosha in the body. Very effective in relieving bodyache, stiffness, abdominal pains and good for joint pains.

Recommended Dosage: One teaspoonful twice daily with plain water after meals.

4. Aamvatantak Churna

This herbal formulation contains ayurvedic herbs that cures DISH disease. The churna reduces inflammation, stiffness and pain in the body. It has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic and immunomodulator properties. The herbs used are ashwagandha, methi, suranjaan, gorakhmundi, haridra and sonth.
