Ayurvedic Treatment Of Interstitial Cystitis

Abstract

Interstitial cystitis is the inflammation of the urinary bladder. This is a temporary storage reservoir for urine. Urinary bladder is located in the pelvic cavity (posterior to the symphysis pubis). The size and shape of this bladder varies with the amount of urine and also the pressure it receives from surrounding organs. This is a muscular sac behind the pubic bone. Urine is formed in the kidneys and travels down to the bladder through ureters and this bladder is lined by layers of muscles that help to hold urine in the bladder. The normal capacity of the bladder to store urine is 400-600 ml. There are many conditions which hamper the function of the urinary bladder and some of the conditions are cystitis, urinary stones, bladder cancer, incontinence of urine, overactive bladder, etc. But in this article we are going to discuss interstitial cystitis and its Ayurvedic management.
