Galloway Mowat Syndrome

INTRODUCTION

What is Galloway-mowat syndrome?

It is a type of genetic disorder in which a patient presents with various types of abnormalities mostly associated with neurological impairment and renal function variations.

In this ailment patient generally present with three main issues

  • Small head circumference of infant as that of expected size (Microcephaly)
  • Hiatus hernia (outward bulging of the part of stomach below the sternum)
  • Nephrotic syndrome (damage to renal functions producing various symptoms like accumulation of lipid/fats in the blood channels)

ETIOLOGICAL FACTORS

It includes the factors responsible for giving rise to an ailment.

  • Generally the cause is unknown.
  • But according to the research it is considered as an autosomal recessive disorder means the defective gene is located on the autosome (there are 22 pairs of autosome and one pair of sex chromosome in our body).

  • Jivha Pariksha– By examining the tongue whether coated or not.
  • Shabad Pariksha– By listening to the natural sounds within the body like intestinal sound (peristalsis) sounds of moving body fluids.
  • Sparsh Pariksha – By observing the patient skin texture whether it is cool, wet or dry.
  • Drik pariksha – When a physician inspects patient symptoms through his/her eyes.
