PARS PLANITIS SYMPTOMS, CAUSES, DIAGNOSIS & AYURVEDIC TREATMENT

ABSTRACT

Pars planitis, an idiopathic chronic intermediate uveitis that accounts for 5–26.7% of paediatric uveitis, is the most prevalent in children and adolescents. There is no underlying illness or accompanying infection with this disease. Although pars planitis patients rarely experience symptoms, they could mention floaters or impaired vision. There is typically no pain or photophobia. However, retinal detachment or an abrupt vitreous haemorrhage can occasionally cause people to suddenly lose their vision. This article includes information regarding patients with pars planitis and covers the assessment and management of the condition.

Pars Planitis

INTRODUCTION

A persistent intermediate uveitis called pars planitis occurs when no underlying systemic illness or concomitant infection can be identified. The phrase “intermediate uveitis” refers to an inflammatory condition that affects the eye’s vitreous as its main site of inflammation. The anterior vitreous, the vitreous base that sits on top of the pars plana and peripheral retina, may be inflamed. It is distinguished by whitish exudates on the inferior pars plana (snowbanking) and vitreal inflammatory aggregates (snowballs). Pars planitis, hyalitis, and posterior cyclitis are all symptoms of intermediate uveitis.

These clinical traits are related to the Pittaja and Raktaja Adhimantha of Sarvagata Netra Rogas in Ayurveda. Pars planitis symptoms, according to Pittaja and Raktaja Adhimantha, include discomfort, photophobia, redness, lacrimation, and blurriness. Pittajaadhimantha, which is brought on by a vitiated Pitta Dosha, is characterised by burning sensations, congestion, discharge, and inflammation combined with headaches. Raktaja Adhimantha is Pittaja Adhimantha in a more exaggerated form. Ciliary congestion, severe congestion, pain when touched, prickling pain, and discomfort when touched are among the symptoms.
