Pars planitis is an unknown intermediate chronic uveitis. It affects kids and adults both. Majorly eye related disorders are due to some infection history in the body, it can also be an infection of other organs than ENT. The term intermediate uveitis refers to inflammation of the anterior vitreous, ciliary body, and peripheral retina that may or may not be associated with infection or systemic disease, whereas the term “pars planitis” refers to a subset of intermediate uveitis that is associated with snowbank and snowball formation in the absence of infectious or systemic disease.

Pars Planitis

Also known as intermediate uveitis (IU), peripheral retinal inflammation, vitritis. Young men are at more risk of developing pars planitis than women. The pars plana is part of the ciliary body, which is placed between the iris and the choroid. If the pars plana gets inflamed, you may notice fuzzy vision, floaters in the visual field, and, finally, vision loss. Pars planitis often affects both eyes but can be asymmetric.

  • X Ray chest
  • MRI brain ( head eye anatomy)

  • First line of treatment is to rule out external causes which include the infectious and non infectious cause.
  • Steroid injection to the eye. (local corticosteroids)
  • Oral anti inflammatory medication
  • Pars plana vitrectomy ( fluid gel like liquid is removed from eye)
