Ayurvedic Treatment for Leucorrhea
Leucorrhea is a type of vaginal discharge in women. Every woman faces this problem at least once in her life. Leucorrhea secretions are little bit sticky. Vaginal discharge is a normal phenomenon in females and the discharge is a sort of fluid, in which all the worn out and dead cells in the vaginal tract are eliminated continuously from the vagina. In a normal woman, such discharges are whitish in color. The quantities of vaginal secretions differ throughout the menstrual cycle. It reaches its peak at ovulation and also in stressful conditions. In most women, white vaginal discharge is common during menstruation. After puberty, a girl may have leucorrhea due to over-active sexual glands. The causes for vaginal discharge due to leucorrhea may include diabetes, inflammation and discomfort caused by Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (IUCD), inflammation in the womb after childbirth, general weakness in a woman, failure to maintain personal hygiene etc. In some women, an injury to the vagina may also cause vaginal discharge. Other causes for vaginal discharge may include wrong diet that is low in nutrition and build-up of toxins in the body.
The causes of symptoms of leucorrhea may include persistent inflammation, itching and irritation of the vagina. Other prominent symptoms are dark regions below the eyes, excessive discharge through mucous membrane of vagina, constipation, unexplained exhaustion, nausea, diarrhea, discomfort in the abdomen, headache, repeated urge to expel urine, feeling of weakness, pain during sexual act and even pain in the calves, thighs and the lumbar region. When inflammation becomes chronic, the vaginal discharge contains pus and may turn from white color to light yellow or green color. Modern drugs used for leucorrhea are very toxic to the body and most women opt for natural remedies.
According to Ayurveda, leucorrhea is known as ‘shwetapradara’. Ayurvedic treatment of leucorrhea is aimed at the metabolic disorders arising due to malfunctioning of basic units of life known as ‘dhatus’. The prime causative factors are the lifestyle modalities in terms of actions and diet which alter the secretions in the body. ‘Kapha dosha’ is the humor that maintains the proper balance of the fluid contents in the body. Vitiation in the kapha dosha may cause fluids from the human body to seep into the outside. In leucorrhea or shwetapradara, it can be clearly seen as a kapha dosha disorder.
